Definition D17

Let AA and BB be two sets and let ff be a mapping of AA into BB.

If E⊂AE\subset A, f(E)f(E) is defined to be the set of all elements f(x)f(x), for x∈Ex\in E. We call f(E)f(E) the image of EE under ff.

If f(A)=Bf(A)=B, we say that ff maps AA onto BB.
