Definition D19

By a sequence, we mean a function ff defined on the set JJ of all positive integers.

If f(n)=xnf(n)=x_n, for nJn\in J, it is customary to denote the sequence ff by the symbol {xn}\{x_n\}, or sometimes by x1,x2,x3,x_1,x_2,x_3,\ldots.

The values of ff, that is, the elements xnx_n, are called the terms of the sequence.

If AA is a set and if xnAx_n\in A for all nJn\in J, then {xn}\{x_n\} is said to be a sequence in AA, or a sequence of elements of AA.
